Sisters
"I'm sorry it couldn't be us"
Hello everyone! Hope you are all doing well after the holiday weekend. Here is a poem I wrote recently about Antigone and Ismene, the tragic daughters of Oedipus. Their story is mostly known through Sophocles’ tragedy, ‘Antigone’, about the titular sister’s political move of burying her own brother after the action has been forbidden by the current king of Thebes. I’ve always loved the relationship between the sisters, and wrote this side-by-side poem, as I call them, to mimic the back and forth of their relationship. A hint: read each column by itself first, then read across from left to right. Have a great rest of your weekend. More Piecemeal to come soon!

These side by side poems have at least two options of ho you read them. The reading of the whole line gives a dialogue between sisters whereas the separation of the poems with individual reads lends itself to more internal monologue. Great work!
